Case Studies
The application was developed for use by officers working in the Riverside County jail. It allows them to schedule visits for jail inmates. It also allows them to restrict visits, change housing unit schedules and compile reports. Previously all inmate scheduling, recording of visitor information, reporting, and inmate restricting was done by hand. The Inmate Visiting Program facilitates the following tasks:
Application Components: This web application was built with Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) utilizing Java Server Pages, Servlets, and Java Beans with a Model-View-Controller design pattern running on Tomcat web container in a Mandrake Linux environment. The 3rd module i.e, "modifying jail visiting schedule" is written as a Swing based Applet, that displays all jails' schedules in separate tabs on the same panel. The Java 2 Drag and Drop API's were used to provide a desktop convenience to this Web application. The authentication module allows for either database table based authentication or LDAP Server authentication providing capabilities for a centralized universal Countywide logon able to support multiple applications.
